𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗜 – 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘂𝗺 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽𝘀 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴?!

𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗜 – 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘂𝗺 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽𝘀 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴?!

Many enterprises follow a familiar rhythm. A major consulting firm arrives, declares centralization the new path to efficiency; a few years later, another urges decentralization for speed and innovation. The pattern repeats—a pendulum in motion, each swing leaving behind new org charts and transformation decks.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗜 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲?

AWS strategists Matthias Patzak and Tom Godden suggest not. In their article “Centralizing or Decentralizing Generative AI? The Answer: Both, [1] ” they propose a hybrid model that breaks the pendulum pattern. Instead of constant swings, organizations can build stability: centralizing AI foundations (governance, infrastructure, compliance) while decentralizing AI innovation across business domains.

This means the tension between control and creativity isn’t a tug-of-war—it’s a balance. Centralized data quality and model governance coexist with domain-driven experimentation and iteration. In other words, in generative AI, the answer isn’t choosing a side. It’s designing for both—the foundation stays steady, innovation moves fast.

I couldn’t agree more. Innovation happens at the edges! Give your employees the foundation and platform, and you create the conditions for innovation to happen and accelerate.
