🌊 Change is the only constant in life - but what if it's bad?
🌊 Change is the only constant in life - but what if it’s bad?
The original quote is attributed to the Greek philosopher Heraclitus. In its original form, it was maybe closer to “everything flows.” Another way of expressing it is his quote: “you can’t step into the same river twice.” All of this is true - deeply rooted in the mechanics of the world we’re living in. Always astonishing what Greek culture brought forth so early in human history. Principles.
✨ And it’s largely a good thing. Embracing change requires the ability to explore new things, learn, expand boundaries, and progress. Neglecting change makes you stall.
❓ But what if the change is not good? I recently talked about shoes - ah, I mean change - actually both in https://lnkd.in/ejQNHs76 .
🏔️ To be honest, this roots in some thoughts I had lately while being in the mountains. People who know me understand that this landscape is very close to my heart. It makes me thrive.
But it’s also an environment that reacts rather fast to change. Climate change is very visible there. The picture I took on the way down from one of the summits in the Alps - Großvenediger. To make it to the summit, you start very early, hours before sunrise, to avoid the dangers of daily melting of ice, snow, and rockfall caused by that. Still - the glacier turns into a river delta on the way down, changing the landscape.
🔊 When you’re back in the safety of your shelter, you can see and hear the change. Flowing water, breaking ice, and the loud rumble of rock slides. I would argue that this change is not good. It’s a clear sign that our climate is changing. Mountains serve as an early warning system - taking the beauty of permanent ice out of the Alps, making well-known paths unusable, blocking humans from experiencing the beauty of the mountains.
🌱 You can also argue that this change has good aspects. Actually, nature takes over the free space and creates new beautiful ecosystems - think about Val Veny close to Courmayeur. This is happening all the time.
💭 Why do I share this? I think it’s very important to experience it to better understand the impact of this particular change. It helps me focus my energy again to live more frugally. At times we face changes we cannot influence. It’s important to deal with those. One strategy can be to find the good aspects of the change and focus on them.
❔ What’s your view on this? What are your strategies to face those changes?
