Yesterday I had the pleasure to join my first 12min.me event. Never heard about it? It is a volunteer-driven NGO that hosts tightly time-boxed, 3ร12โminute talk evenings with Q&A and networking to connect people across industries around inspiring, relevant topics in a relaxed afterwork setting.
Three great talks set the topics for the evening with quite some insightful discussions among speakers and participants. Very insightful and I’m looking forward to the next event! ๐

๐ Fee Kalter talked about hustle culture, which promotes relentless work and productivity as the path to success, often glorifying long hours and constant busyness at the expense of rest and well-being. Systemic or not - each of us can, and actually really should, be aware of this and build habits & mechanisms to help ourselves and others around us to escape this. Besides creating awareness, Fee provided quite some tips and tricks on how to deal with it.
๐ Sarah Limberg and Cindy introduced Wichtelchallenge.de, a German branch of a non-profit initiative that fulfills Christmas wish lists for socially disadvantaged people through an online platform. Basically, the platform provides access to Christmas wishes of people who need our support, so that users of the platform can fulfill them. There are still some open wishes on the platform, so have a look and help to create some happy faces!
๐ค Last but not least, Thomas Friebe provided very eye-opening insights into his own career starting as “the world’s worst news reader” - can’t judge, just citing him ๐ - to a professional speaker. He provided quite some useful tips to overcome the stage freeze we are all afraid of. I also liked the comment of his colleague on fear. She pointed out that fear as such is useful to be alerted and in the moment. You just need to realize that there is no danger involved in being on a stage. ๐ฏ
