The silence before the storm - actually not really as it is super windy today 😉. Nevertheless a quiet day in Johannesburg due to national holidays. At the same time busy as speakers meet to fin tune presentations and get ready for tomorrow’s AWS Summit Johannesburg (https://lnkd.in/eWAygbwA).

First time for me in Africa and I’m fascinated by its people, culture, landscape and wild life. Soaking it in.

Last week’s Amsterdam Summit is in the books. It has been a blast. A great opportunity to (re-)connect with customers, partners and colleagues. Heiko Hotz’s and my talk “Generative AI - The new way to generate content?” has been well received - unfortunately some participants left to be standing - and let to good discussion afterwards. Re:invent 2022 is in the books. 220.145 steps and more importantly uncountable valuable interactions with customers, partners and colleagues. It’s a global world and we all work in distributed teams. The more important are face 2 face meetings. Leaving tired with a smile in my face - it has been a class reunion and on top I’ve meeting a lot of new faces. Beside that, I had the pleasure to reconnect to nature as well. While important in our daily life, spending a week in vegas even makes it more important to keep your balance … #reinvent22 #reinvent2022 #aws

Time is moving fast. Already 5 years though it feels like I just started. Still Day 1. At Amazon Web Services (AWS) I found an awesome place to work with my customers and develop myself. While interviewing candidates, I often get asked what is the outstanding reason for me to stay at AWS. My honest answer is always: “Working within a team of rockstars”. The people and mindset make the real difference for me. Part of the culture is valuing tenure and providing feedback to each other. Reading through the kudos board created for me by some of the awesome folks I work with, made my day. Today I also collected my shiny orange badge. 

#AWSSummit 2022 in Berlin has been a blast. Felt like someone accidentally hit the pause button two years ago and finally managed to resume. It was awesome to meet people again outside of the countless video calls - they actually exist 😀. Now winding down at the airport with a smile on my face.

Today is re:Purpose day, a great organisational initiative in Tanuja Randery’s organization. Many different activities by different team members. Beside toeing the swimming pool for a first time since a long pandemic break, I also spent some quality coding time in a cafe. While I have flexibility every day, the re:Purpose day really help me to actually get better in using it. And yes, we are hiring.
