Sharing some positive energy from my morning run and the nice progress in preparation for next week’s MEDIENTAGE MÜNCHEN.
I’m planning to be at the event for all 3 days - happy to meet you there. I’ll be running two session there:
Oliver and I will kick-off on Wednesday with the masterclass “Von der Idee zur Realität” where we dive deep into various use cases for GenAI in the Media&Entertaining industry and how you can build those on AWS. [German Session]

Now that we have Generative AI and the power of LLMs, we can forget about classic recommender systems, right?!
Maybe not, we will see. Nensi Hakobjanyan and I take you through a journey of understanding what role LLMs can play in personalisation today. Spoiler - seldom in life we need to e.g. decide between taking a red or a blue pill, but often a good solution is composed by multiple approaches 🙂.

🚀 2024, the year when Generative AI is hitting production. Strong statement, but how? And what is next?
🏠 This week is a little quiet in terms of traveling for me. Great time to reflect on what happened recently and prepare for the - very exciting - week ahead.
📋 In order to make it to production, one first needs a vision for the product to be build. Generative AI might, or might not be part of the solution. These days Generative AI often is one of many building blocks for a solutions. Here it’s important to get on a whiteboard, define the product to be build and then carefully explore the solutions space. Always great if customer invites us to do that jointly. This is where magic happens - like last week. Matias Undurraga Breitling did a short write-up of this at [1].

🚅 On my way to IBC - International Broadcasting Convention 2024. Reflecting on what happened since last year’s IBC. Leaving inflated expectations on AGI aside, it’s amazing to see how much progress we see in the adoption of (Gen)AI in M&E industry to improve end-user experience and drive successful monetisation of content, which eventually can translate in more and more-interesting content for end-users.
💡 Having that said, one of the key impact of the strong GenAI focus in the society was that - finally - “traditional AI got more and more adopted. Not every use case requires a frontier foundation model ;)

❤️ Let’s start with the conference. A lovely crafted event, right sized so that you have a chance to interact with people and a very nice selection of speakers. Soon it felt like family.
🎸 Naturally picking out just a few talks isn’t fair to the others. I listend to many very interesting talks, though I like always indexed on getting in touch with people & exchange ideas and view - the real value of conference IMHO - and hence only participated in a very real subset of talks.

🏔 Just back from vacation - my heart is full of amazing impressions of the alps - I’m already up to new exciting adventures. I arrived at the DataFestival in Yerevan(Armenia, DataFest Yerevan). A beautiful crafted conference. We met some of the speakers already last night - I can tell you it is a super exciting agenda waiting for you.
💡 Nensi Hakobjanyan and I finished the final prep for out talk “Unlocking the Power of LLMs: Next generation recommender systems“ which will be on this afternoon (4:30). If you are around make sure that you drop by - it will be AWSome 😀

Awesome event, indeed Lajos Lange. Extending your kudos to the team - I had a fantastic time yesterday. #GenerativeAI is a very powerful technology applicable across different industries. What really stands out for me is that is a powerful tool not just for tech folks but also for non-technical people, who can apply it without a steep learning curve.
Yesterday we talked about how Prompt Engineering can improve results with little effort. Can’t wait to see what participants are going to build from there 😊.

Last week I had the pleasure to join and present at the AWS GenAI Roundtable: Transforming the Marketing, Advertising, and Publishing Industry (https://lnkd.in/epV8Wa26) event.
Great opportunity to share my holiday pics to a wider audience. Kidding and not kidding. Used those to visualise the inflated expectations of LLM capabilities we experience and at the same time talked about the fantastic opportunities LLMs bring to the various industries. Check out Mark Watkins’s post on the event(https://lnkd.in/ey8Q8WiF), where he is referencing some of the demos the team showcased in the event and available online for your own consumption. Highly recommended to have a look. Source code available on GitHub!

⏰ Early start and back to Zürich Airport! 🛫 Some disturbances grounded me here last night, but I’m looking back to yesterday’s amazing Generative AI hackathon with a smile 😊.
☕ The participants were very engaged and built impressive PoCs in no time. My favorite feedback was: “It’s amazingly easy to create an 80% solution in almost no time”, “Based on the learning I built a 2nd use case in just 10 more minutes and got amazing results”, and “It’s not just the Generative AI models, but the platform that allowed me to build RAG-based solutions so easily”. 🙌

What a great evening yesterday at the AWS User Group Munich. The quote of the evening for me, yeah I might be a little biased 😉 , was :
“There are multiple model launches in Amazon Bedrock. Launching new models in Bedrock became like new minor versions numbers for databases or other services. Hard to keep up with the pace”.
Reflecting on this, I think that is a very true statement. It underlines the pace of innovation in this space and the necessity of choice at your hands if you want to build #GenAI based application for your customers. Hence the need of a service like #AmazonBedrock. Also featured the Bedrock Converse API, which makes switching models even easier.
